Innocence, from Beyond Our Exodus

Innocence

Geum triflorum

Geum triflorum

Do we remember our infancy,
The prickly feeling of toddler activity,
The sense of being small,
Because everyone and everything
Seemed so large in our vicinity?

Do we remember our tottering attempts
At learning existence?
Do we remember our bondings
With people and things,
That feminine scent
That masculine strength,
A furry softness,
A satiny feel on our fingertips,
A measure of continuity,
That pervaded our young senses?

Do we understand
These remembrances,
However positive or negative,
Are our true feelings of innocence?

We’ll always have these
Girl and boy sentiments,
They are our specialness,
Gifts from God for our presence.
